    Traffic Safety

    It's important that we keep our kids safe. Please watch this video to prepare for Traffic Duty at Westwood Charter and learn proper procedures for drop off and pick up.

    REMEMBER:

    1. No parking on Selby, Mississippi, or LaGrange during the hours of 7:30 a.m. - 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS! 
    2. Drop off and pick up children without blocking traffic.
    3. Cross at the corner.
    4. Do not park in No Parking Zones.
    5. Do not stop to let your children out in the Red Zone. 
    6. Do not double park.
    7. Do not block driveways.
    8. Do not use the teachers’ parking lot.

    Our Community School


    Westwood Charter Elementary is an inclusive, child-centered environment where children feel safe to take risks. It is a community dedicated to educating the whole child. Our students are actively engaged in learning through a curriculum that is both developmental and experiential. Our students are challenged to construct knowledge through meaningful interactions with each other and the world and are agents of change as they embrace their connections to the local and global community. Westwood Charter Elementary is an affiliated charter and a member of the Los Angeles Unified School District and a California Distinguished School. It has been a charter school since July 26, 1993.

    Mandatory HOOT Rep Meeting Posted 9/24/18

    MANDATORY HOOT REP MEETING - 

    WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 26 AT 8:15AM IN AUDITORIUM

    Dear HOOT Reps,

    Thank you so much for volunteering to be the HOOT Rep for your class!  You are an integral part of the HOOT and your efforts will help make this year’s HOOT a tremendous success.  

    Planning for this year’s HOOT already is underway, and it’s time to get you all involved in the fun.  

    The HOOT committee will be communicating directly with you all as HOOT reps from now until the HOOT.

    This is a reminder that there is a mandatory meeting for all HOOT Reps on Wednesday, September 26th, after drop-off at 8:15am in the auditorium.  You must attend.  If you cannot attend, you must find another parent to represent your class at the meeting. 

    The HOOT Rep meeting is mandatory for HOOT Reps.  But all parents are invited.  Any parent who is interested in becoming more involved with the HOOT, including the famous WWC haunted castle, also is encouraged and welcome to attend!  So feel free to pass the word on to the parents in your class who may want to learn more about all matters HOOT.  This year’s HOOT is on October 28th from 10am-4pm and promises to be amazing.

    Council is the practice of speaking and listening from the heart Through compassionate, heartfelt expression and empathetic listening, Council offers an effective means of communicating. It provides a common experience and shared vision for sound decision-making and conflict resolution. It is also a valuable learning tool that enables children express themselves thoughtfully and with confidence. 

    You child participates in Council ona regular basis at our school. We hope you will take advantage of this opportunity to experience with your child, what has become common practice at Westwood Charter.  COME BE A PART OF THE CIRCLE!

    New Roofs Posted 9/24/18

    FACILITIES UPDATE

    We are happy to announce that LAUSD has scheduled a roofing project at Westwood!  All of our buildings will have new roofs installed over the next several weeks.  Work is expected to begin on Monday, September 24th and conclude in January. The district will supervise the project to ensure that all safety and construction expectations are maintained.
