WISE - Organizational Structure

On September 15, 2008, W.I.S.E. adopted the set of restated by-laws by which it operates. The business and affairs of the organization are managed by a 9-member Board of Directors. Each board member holds one of the following officer positions:

President
Vice President for Fundraising
Vice President for Programs
Secretary
Chief Financial Officer
Treasurer
Membership Coordinator
Community Outreach Liaison
Head Room Representative

The responsibilities of each officer are described below:

The President is the facilitative leader, general manager, and chief executive officer of W.I.S.E. The president is responsible for guiding the organization toward its vision and broad goals, and providing general supervision, direction, and control of the business and officers of the organization.

The Vice President for Fundraising supervises, directs, and oversees all fundraising activities of the organization.

The Vice President for Programs supervises, directs, and oversees the non-fundraising activities of the organization including, but not limited to, parent educational events and social programs, honorary programs, and parent service activities.

The Secretary keeps the minutes of all W.I.S.E. meetings, is responsible for providing communications about meetings, and serves as the liaison with the school newsletter.

The Chief Financial Officer is responsible for accounts payable.

The Treasurer is responsible for all recordkeeping and bookkeeping for the organization.

The Head Room Representative oversees all classroom representatives who serve as liaisons between teachers, parents, and the Board.

The Community Outreach Liaison oversees activities and opportunities that link programs at Westwood Charter Elementary School to the broader community.

The Membership Coordinator is responsible for facilitating communications and contacts among parents, orienting new parents, overseeing development and publication of the annual school directory, coordinating volunteer sign-ups, and distributing beginning-of-the-year information packets for parents.

The W.I.S.E. Board members serve for a term of 2 years. Qualified candidates for election to the Board are nominated by the W.I.S.E. Nominating Committee (comprised of parent volunteers), and elected by the vote of a majority of the entire Board. During the school year, the W.I.S.E. Board meets monthly.

W.I.S.E. business meetings are held monthly in the school auditorium. All parents are invited to attend.

Each W.I.S.E. service, program, and fundraising activity is coordinated by an ad-hoc committee that has one or more parent volunteer chairpersons.
